I guess I am not a careful cook and Chaya Malka's tip on just covering a burn in plastic wrap has saved me many times. Those occasions when I've touched a hot pot accidentally, it's been a life saver. No blisters and no scar. I am so grateful for the magnet on my refrigerator that covers everything I need to know about burns. Now that I have my refrigerator card handy I think I'm smarter about how to handle any emergency in the kitchen. Also, I am so much more conscious now about dealing with kitchen items that can possibly be hazardous. The e mail blasts that the CMBF sends out make a difference in awareness in my home. My name is Ruchelle B. , from Canada, living in Bnei Brak. My baby is Shaindel Shprintza bas Rachel, 14 months old, we call her Shaindy. This is the story: I was busy in another part of the house when my 3 yr old came running to tell me that Shaindy is "crying in the bathroom because soap spilled on her". I ran to the bathroom and found her sitting in a puddle of bleach, with her navy pants already all pink from the bleach. (I know... the bleach should have been in a locked cabinet, but it is usually blocked by the laundry hampers, just then, though, those were in the laundry room being tackled after the nine days...).I dumped her in the bath, undressed her and rinsed her off for 10-15 minutes. She was too upset to stand, so most of the time she was sitting in the bathtub while I washed her. Apparently, the backs of her legs, the part that touched the tub floor didn't get rinsed off well enough and fast enough, which is why the bleach had time to burn her skin. After 10-15 minutes, I took her out and saw that the backs of her legs were all red. I called the CMBF (I have a printout of immediate responses to burns from CMBF with your number hanging on my fridge for a long time, I must have gotten it as an email once). At your suggestion, I put her back in the bath for half an hour, but, again, she was sitting. The burn still looked bright red and blistery. After that I put her in grated potatoes which definitely helped make the burn smaller and less blistery. At the same time, my husband got a special cream, applied it, and covered it with gauze. Thank you so much for your help and support physically and emotionally, it was invaluable. May you be zoche to continue helping people with health, bracha and hatzlacha! Ruchelle B., Bnei Brak
''I love your very practical kitchen recommendations”. Dr. Chaim Jungreis, RBS Israel
The Levy Family wants to thank you very much for all the support we received during the past 7 months, since the accident. I was hospitalized with 25 % burns on my hands, face and leg. Thank God, the situation is much better, the burn is improving, and my wife Rachel just gave birth to a healthy baby girl! Mazel Tov. We want to thank the CMBF for the financial help you’ve been giving us every time, over these difficult months, so I could have the essentials that severely burned patients need, (Pressure garments for hands, silicone sheets to enhance the function of the pressure suit and burn ointment) which are helping me tremendously to reach my goal of getting back the full use of my hands, increasing range of motion, strength and elasticity of the skin. Like Chaya Malka, my hands were badly burnt and the way I support my family. Again, Chaya Malka thank you for all your support, direction and encouraging words. We are so grateful.
